CASE STUDY: PLAZAS
SITE DESIGN
During Landscape Design Studio 2: Site Design, each student was required to analyze 3 public plazas in order to learn from precedents before designing our own public space for the Murphy Sculpture Garden (see: Landscape Design 2A for that project). I chose to analyze Zocalo plaza in Mexico City, Sunset Triangle in Silverlak, and the Culver Steps retail development. For each site, we were required to analyze the site via graphics, identify a possible conceptual parti or bubble diagram, draft the site in plan view and section elevation, and sketch one perspective. All graphics are hand-drafted in pencil, pen, and colored pencil, without any digital rendering or touch ups. All photos of the 3 sites shown here and their corresponding original design sketches or plans were found on Google, and ownership remains with original photographer, designer, and/or website.
