DESIGN GRAPHICS 2

COMMUNICATION FOR SITE ANALYSIS; CONCEPTUAL AND SITE DESIGN

This work builds upon DG1, exploring the existing built landscape of Tongva Park in Santa Monica, CA, designed by Field Operations, by hand drafting and drawing site elements within the park along with purported site analysis diagrams to illustrate design intent. This academic class taught me the fundamentals of diagrammatic communication, sheet layout, and how to use color to professionally and successfully present a comprehensive design to a client. All graphics were drawn by hand on vellum using graphite pencils, black ink pens, colored pencils and markers, and standard hand drafting equipment.

AWARDS & ACCOLADES

Silver SCASLA Achievement Award, 2024 UCLAx Student Show

The judges appreciated the opening page, particularly the leaf design, city hall, and water flowing to the ocean, which responded well to the site. They praised the tree canopy legend and the illustrative massing of trees, noting the clear differentiation in tree type. The color use in the illustrative was also highlighted for its success in differentiating various tree types, with the added suggestion to emphasize mounded areas. The perspectives were highly praised for their texture, scale, and composition, with a wish for them to be showcased larger due to their quality.
